February Sun

Friday, 5 March 2010

Can’t believe how fast time flies… especially when you’re on vacation! In February I got a LOT of sun during my stay in the Similan Islands off the coast of Phuket and in Koh Samui. The Similan Islands are gorgeous! There’s nothing around us for miles but turquoise waters and 9 little remote islands covered in jungle and white powdery sand.

I went scuba diving for the first time, was a little nervous at first, but I made it down over 40 feet! There’s so much going on underwater but yet so peaceful at the same time, there’s no experience like it.

Unfortunately my camera turned on me and decided to wipe out the memory card so I lost a lot of pictures but I still got a few :)

For all you dirty people – Get Clean!

Thursday, 28 January 2010

Yesterday I came home to find a box of Shaklee’s GET CLEAN cleaning products sitting on the table. I know I know.. I didn’t exactly have the same reaction as I would if, say, a pair of new Greissimo Mule Louboutins (yum) randomly showed up at my door. But as I found out more about the Shaklee company and their products, I became more intrigued. Have you ever wanted to do something, anything to help our dying planet but didn’t know how? Simply replacing your current products with these is a great first step. If you don’t clean, tell your housekeepers your parents your friends your neighbors! Shaklee is the first company IN THE WORLD to obtain a Climate Neutral certification and totally offset their CO2 emissions, which means they have a net zero impact on the environment. You can check out more about their products here. In this starter kit box I found literally everything from dish washing liquid to disinfecting wipes to laundry detergent.. ok i’ll stop here. The point is, there are absolutely no harmful chemicals used (which means a healthier you) and by switching to these products you alone will keep 108 pounds of packaging waste from landfills, and eliminate 248 pounds of greenhouse gas. Now doesn’t that sound good?

As good ol’ Gandhi said – “You must be the change you wish to see in this world”

Haiti – How can we help?

Tuesday, 26 January 2010

All of my traveling recently has amounted to an overwhelming amount of CNN,TIME, and Newsweek – CNN is one of the only English channels in some foreign hotels and TIME and Newsweek are my regular plane buddies. Needless to say, the tragedy in Haiti has been the main topic in all media. Watching and reading the coverage in Haiti makes me sick to my stomach but at the same time all the stories of unforgettable courage and relentless hope are incredibly inspiring.

According to usaid.gov, the US alone has contributed US$86,671,430 in Humanitarian assistance to Haiti. That’s not including all the generous donations made by people out of their own pockets or though the Hope for Haiti concert which featured over 40 celebrities and brought in over 58 million US dollars. Citizens have also made organized efforts to donate medical supplies, clothing, and even their own services as they traveled to the devastated country.

In these hard times, we need to remember that some have harder times.

Tonight I’m going to think about the best ways I can help. I know there are some great charities such as doctorswithoutborders and the International Response Fund by American Red Cross, and many more. Feel free to leave me a comment about how you’ve helped or plan on doing so.
