MEDICOM TOY X SAIKO OTAKE - ‘GODDESS’ BE@RBRICK

Born in 1988, Japanese artist Saiko Otake is an up-&-coming creative who in November 2021 showcased an exhibition featuring two exclusive art pieces in collaboration with MEDICOM TOY’s world-renowned BE@RBRICK. The artist graduated in 2016 from the prestigious and highly-celebrated Central Saint Martins with a degree in Graphic Design — and has since exhibited her work all around the globe from Berlin to Tokyo within magazines, art shows, and more.

Both the ‘Goddess’ and ‘Planet’ prints from Saiko Otake’s BE@RBRICK collaboration are available in 100% and 400% versions.

MEDICOM TOY X EUGENE HENRY PAUL GAUGUIN - ‘WHERE DO WE COME FROM?’ BE@RBRICK

Eugène-Henri-Paul Gauguin, or Paul Gauguin for short, was a pioneer of post-impressionist art amongst famed artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Cézanne, and more. Born in 1848, the artist sought to release expressions of spiritual and emotional imagery atop his canvases — which spawned one of his most vivid pieces, ‘Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?’ — the piece chosen for this collaboration with MEDICOM TOY.

MEDICOM TOY X PIET MONDRIAN - BE@RBRICK

A pioneer of abstract art, Piet Mondrian paved the way for the Dutch modernist style movement of De Stijl. The BE@RBRICK imprint is based on the artist’s piece made in the 1920s, dubbed “Composition with Large Red Plane, Yellow, Black, Gray, and Blue,” which marked the beginning of his pieces for which he is best known for.

MEDICOM TOY X ANDY WARHOL X JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT - #4 BE@RBRICK

Based on the 1985 joint piece "6.99" by Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat. The work showed the artists' experiments and visualised their back-and-forth between screen-print and hand-paint processes on a large-scale canvas painting.

MEDICOM TOY X UTAGAWA KUNIYOSHI - THE HAUNTED OLD PALACE AT SOMA BE@RBRICK

During Japan's late Edo period, Utagawa Kuniyoshi was one of the most notable woodcut printmakers of the 19th century. The artist is still known for his vibrant and colourful portrayals of demons, monsters, samurais, and other characters, which later inspired art styles in Japanese comics. The 'Princess Takiyasha Calling up a Monstrous Skeleton Specter at the Old Palace in Soma', or 'The Haunted Old Palace at Soma' for short, was picked from a pool of pieces to be the design for this collaborative BE@RBRICK.

MEDICOM TOY X BENJAMIN GRANT (OVERVIEW) - TOKYO BE@RBRICK

This collaboration with MEDICOM TOY features a satellite image of Tokyo, taken by Benjamin Grant, who is the author and founder of Overview. The brand uses compelling photographs to survey the changing states on Earth — and this collaborative piece uses one of many different images from the book. The BE@RBRICK also showcases the exact coordinates the satellite photo was taken, printed at the chest.
