Medicom Toy Taps Into The Nostalgic Pasts Of '90s & '00s Kids!

MEDICOM TOY has had a history of travelling into the depths of the creative industries, with collaborations that have cemented its place in its respective scenes; collaborating with the likes of CLOT, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Dr. Martens and even Nike. At first glance, the brand seems to have a liking to art and its artists, but another thing that comes into play would be its love for the creatives of the past. Shown on its current BE@RBRICK collaborations, the brand has featured imagery of Pinocchio, Betty Boop, The Beatles, and even Andy Warhol x Jean-Michel Basquiat; all prominent icons of the 20th century in Film, Music, Animation and Art. MEDICOM TOY fans have consistently had their nostalgic thirst quenched with different renditions of their childhood and teenage memories.

Pinocchio (1940)

The 1940 film has been a prominent animation in many children's lives recurring throughout the 20th century, being the second animated feature film to come out of Disney (after Snow White in 1937). The film was re-released every 7 or so years continuously after its conception until 1992; then seeing the release of the film on VHS tapes, DVDs, CD in the early 2000s. The film depicts the main character Pinocchio, a puppet who was given life and has a desire to become a real boy; given he succeeds in knowing right from wrong - going through his journey with friend (and conscience) Jiminiy Cricket. Betty Boop (1930)

Betty Boop was one of the earliest black & white cartoon characters first appearing in 1930, she was originally created as a human incarnation of the french poodle. The character made a resurgence following the release of The Betty Boop Scandals of 1974 but truly made its comeback with its release in the 1990s; labelled Betty Boop, The Definitive Collection. Her popularity has climbed its way into modern-day culture, one prominent cameo being her appareence in the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit, appearing as a cocktail waitress. New Flame by Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat (1980)

Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat have both been a part of the most movement in art culture - with works that have transcended both their lifetimes. The two stars most defining moments were in the '80s paving the way for future minority creatives, the two have collaborated on many pieces, and also grew close on a personal level. All of their collaborative pieces were not only a representation of their loved skill & art style, but also a depiction of their beloved friendship. The BE@RBRICK imagery used the piece 'NEW FLAME' a collaborative piece by Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Anthology 1 by The Beatles (1995)

The Beatles have seemingly been one of the most prominent British rock bands in the mid 20th century, transcending generations of music lovers till' now in the the modern era. All members of the band are popular icons in their own right, starring Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison. It is a no brainer that The Beatles have been in the hearts of many around the world, making the band a collaborative icon. One example of MEDICOM TOY's rendition of The Beatles is in their recent release of Anthology BE@RBRICK, which featured a design based on the Anthology 1 compilation album released in 1995, which featured a variety of outtakes, live shows, and rare artefacts.
